Abstract The evaluation of chemical experiments is of great significance for cultivating students' innovative consciousness and practical ability. The study attempted to design “teaching-learning-assessment activity” to prompt students' chemistry learning and develop experimental ability by applying the chemistry school-based assessment of high school in Hong Kong. The study first introduced the framework and guidelines of the chemistry school-based assessment of high school in Hong Kong. Then, by referring to 2017 curriculum standards, the experimental evaluation scale was designed with the example of “ferric salt and ferrous salt” in Chemistry 1 (PEP Ed., based on 2003 curriculum standards). Through evaluation feedback, a more scientific and comprehensive diagnosis and evaluation of students' experimental ability performance is made, and then provides an improved basis for teachers' chemistry teaching practice.
