Abstract Combined with the current teaching status and the requirements based on the students’ survey, we are deep in thought of the importance and the related problems of designing exercise courses in the teaching process. From different aspects, including teacher quality, class size, teaching method, exercise construction, exercise interpretation and examination, we put forward effective strategies to improve the efficiency of the exercise courses. We further discuss the feasibility of online and offline blended teaching in the teaching modes of exercise courses, and provide a teaching case for reference, aiming to promote the teaching and learning of professional courses in college chemistry.
