Abstract Interdisciplinary thinking is a way of thinking in which individuals seek solutions to problems based on the internal connection between disciplinary knowledge when solving complex problems. Based on the SOLO classification theory and the “integrated slope” of STEM education, an interdisciplinary thinking evaluation framework is constructed. The NVivo12 analysis software is used to code and count the task decomposition data of the STEAM projects of 93 chemistry students according to the “STEAM pyramid structure framework”. Based on these data, the chemistry interdisciplinary thinking development level of normal students were analyzed. It is expected to provide a reference for further strategies to seek high-level development of interdisciplinary thinking among chemistry normal students.
