Abstract As a traditional medicinal herb,pearls contain rich nutrients and are well-known for their whitening and anti-aging functions.However,there is little systematic disclosure of the chemical reaction mechanisms involved.This article provides a systematic review of the whitening and anti-aging mechanisms of pearls from a chemical perspective,analyzing and speculating on the chemical reactions and mechanisms behind these functions.The aim is to reveal the overlooked chemical knowledge in pearls,strengthen the connection between chemistry and life,and provide relevant contexts and resources for chemistry teaching.
