Abstract This article introduces the preparation of functionalized liquid marbles and the experimental study of their application performance as micro reactors. The formation principle and light controlled motion behavior of liquid marbles are explored. Students can learn the knowledge of hydrophilic and hydrophobic materials, surface tension, water/air contact angle, interaction of near-infrared light and materials, with enhanced ability for scientific research, solving scientific problems, as well as passion for learning for science and engineering.
