Abstract This study focuses on resin-based dental restorative materials for caries treatment, systematically investigating the chemical principles involved from the optimal selection of organic monomers and inorganic fillers to the preparation, photopolymerization, and performance evaluation of composite resins. A standardized preparation protocol and performance assessment methodology for dental composite restorative materials are established. The experiment incorporates a simulated caries restoration procedure using extracted human teeth to enhance students’ understanding of the carious lesion and its restorative process. With its simple operational procedures, practical relevance, and clearly observable experimental outcomes, this interdisciplinary study integrates principles from chemistry and materials science. Through hands-on experimentation, it facilitates deeper comprehension of theoretical knowledge, fosters scientific curiosity, and develops practical competencies.
