Abstract Mechanochromism refers to the characteristic of materials to undergo reversible or irreversible changes in optical properties(such as color or fluorescence) when stimulated by mechanical forces(such as stretching, compression,or friction). In recent years, these materials have attracted significant attention due to their potential applications in smart sensors,anti-counterfeiting,flexible electronic devices, and biomedicine. This article introduces the color-changing mechanisms and applications of mechanochromic materials and discusses the current research challenges and future development directions.
