Abstract With the driving task of “investigating how reverse osmosis desalinates seawater”,combined with the interdisciplinary concept of “structure and function” and the core chemical theme of “substances separation”,students are guided to independently put forward key questions to solve the core task. Based on students’ acquired knowledge and life experience, the inquiry is carried out from the perspectives of bionics, engineering design and chemistry, centering on four sub-tasks. It helps students understand technical principles and perceive the charm and value of science and technology.
