Abstract  The synthesis of target compound 1,4-di(1-carboxymethylene-4-imidazolyl) benzene was taken as an innovative training project for undergraduates, including synthetic route design, structure characterization and properties research of the compound. The results showed that innovative training in scientific research could effectively integrate theoretical knowledge and practical skills of the students, and promote their comprehensive capacity and innovative ability.
