Abstract In this paper, the concept of chemical potential is explained in detail, and the application of the chemical potential criterion in such processes as diffusion, phase change, permeation and chemical change is illustrated with both explanations and pictures. By these, the meaning of the "trend/potential" in the trend of change of chemical processes is fully explained.
