Chinese Journal of Chemical Education. 2023, 44 (18): 30-36. ;  doi: 10.13884/j.1003-3807hxjy.2023030221

Show Abstract ( 5 )
The reactions of carbonyl compound are the essential and difficult parts of organic chemistry. Based on the five-dimensional teaching strategy of college organic chemistry, this paper had summarized and proposed an integrative teaching strategy of carbonyl compound under the concept of “three changes”, which were “positivation, transmutation and tautomerization”. Positivation means that if the carbon atom of carbonyl group is more deficient in electron density, it will have a more positive charge and more likely to be attacked by a nucleophile. Transmutation represents the connection of one carbon atom to two highly electronegative atoms or electron withdrawing groups, which can be regarded as potential carbonyl group. Tautomerization refers to the tautomerism of the carbonyl compound and its derivatives. Starting from the concept of “three changes”, specific examples and comprehensive exercises were provided to assist students to learn carbonyl compound more efficiently.

According to the characteristics of the comprehensive experiment, combined with the characteristics of comprehensive, innovative and interesting, the photosensitive resin synthesis and 3D printing comprehensive experiments are designed. In this paper, UV-curable resins were firstly synthesized by the reaction of 1,6-hexadiisocyanate (HDI) trimer with hydroxyethyl acrylate in the active solvent of acrylmorpholine (ACMO). The reaction degree between HDI trimer and hydroxyethyl acrylate was analyzed by —NCO determination, infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance and thermal analysis. Furthermore, the structure of the photocurable resin was characterized and the photocurable property was evaluated. The photosensitive resin with suitable viscosity was prepared by combining with other photocurable monomers and photoinitiators. The test splines and display samples were printed by a desktop 3D printer with 405 nm wavelength. In the performance test, these splines shows that they had good mechanical properties. This experiment was opened in the comprehensive teaching experiments of the fourth grade and won the praise of the students, it can enable undergraduate students to learn the preparation method of photocurable resin, and know the combination of chemical materials with digital model and 3D printing technology. It also can help students to understand the design relationship between polymer structure and performance, enhance their ability to analyze and process data, and expand their knowledge level of other disciplines.

In order to study the motivation of non-normal students to choose cross-examination chemistry education postgraduate students, the grounded theory of qualitative research was adopted. Based on the analysis of relevant in-depth interview data, a theoretical model of the motivation of non-normal university students to take the cross-examination is constructed. According to the study, under the influence of external environment (publicity report, influence of others, employment competition) and individual environment (experiment experience, practice experience, teaching experience), on the one hand, career resistance prompts non-normal university students to leave their original major; on the other hand, professional identity, self-recognition, professional needs prompt non-normal university students to cross the examination of chemical education majors. Then the non-normal university students cross-examination behavior. Using the theoretical model to analyze the case, the students can be divided into three categories: “internal force” driven, “external force” driven and “double” driven. In view of different types of cross-examination students, the cultivation of relevant groups is further discussed.

Question chain teaching method refers to a new teaching method in which teachers design a series of logical problems in the teaching process, with the main line of cultivating students thinking ability and knowledge internalization, and the basic operating mode is cooperation and interaction between the teachers and students. In medical organic chemistry, we adopt the question chain teaching method, which was guided by enlightening problems and paid attention to the formation of logical chains between the problems. By leading students to answer questions, we sorted out the basic concepts, summarized the key and difficult points, and made progress step by step, so as to achieve twice the result with half the effort. In this paper, we take the teaching design and practice of amino acids and peptides as an example to introduce the application of question chain teaching method in medical organic chemistry teaching.

In the process of teaching titration analysis, a precipitation titration learning software is designed and developed using Python language in order to promote the deep integration of modern information technology and teaching. The software does not need to install and establish complex functions or calculation equations. It is easy to operate for users only by selecting and inputting the corresponding parameters, which can make the precipitation titration curve visualization. In addition, the software can automatically calculate the stoichiometric points, the jumping range, the feasibility of the titration and the titration error. This software is presented in the form of a graphical interface with simple design, convenient operation and rich content. Users can choose built-in or customized titration examples. This software almost contains the important knowledge of the precipitation titration method in the syllabus, which is convenient for teachers to prepare lessons for teaching and students to study independently, cooperating to improve the teaching effect.

Turnover number (TON) and turnover frequency (TOF) are the two concepts that can be encountered in the research of catalysis. It is normally accepted that TON is the number of reactant molecules that can be transformed per active site and TOF is the ratio of TON and the time to accomplish these transformations. TON and TOF can be used to evaluate the stability and activity of catalyst. In this paper, the TON and TOF in the homogeneous catalysis, heterogeneous catalysis and enzyme catalysis have been discussed and the related metrics, such as S/C, the molar percent of catalyst, TTN(total turnover number) and STY(site time yield) are also explained.

Stance markers are the language resources for the author to express personal views and attitudes, and they play a crucial role in the construction of academic discourse and interpersonal communication. However, there is also a gap for research stance markers in the abstracts of chemistry papers. Hence, this research presents a corpus-based contrastive analysis of stance markers in English abstracts of research articles from SCI chemistry journals. Research shows that the overall frequency is lower than foreign scholars. Foreign authors use more attitude markers and self-mentions than domestic ones. However, domestic authors often use hedges to convey academic works; there is no significant difference between the two in boosters. Based on the research results, this research aims to raise the awareness of domestic chemistry scholars in using stance markers in academic writing and to provide some pedagogical implications for chemistry ESP teachers.
