Ether bond cleavage reactions not only represent important teaching contents in fundamental organic chemistry course, but also have widespread applications in various aspects. Lignin is an important type of biomass resource, and its degradation research is of great significance. This article summarizes the recent progress on photochemical and electrochemical degradation of lignin β-O-4 units, which can provide appropriate application case for teaching ether bond cleavage reaction and thus expand students’ scientific horizons.

Hydrangea macrophylla is an important landscape plant, for its varieties and showy inflorescences. Interestingly, the sepal of hydrangea contains only one anthocyanin, delphinin-3-glucose, which produces a series of color-changing from red to blue. It’s found that the key role in the color-changing of hydrangea sepals is Al3+, while co-pigment contained in sepals also plays an important role. In order to clarify the mechanism of color-changing from red to blue, biochemists proposed a chemical model, and successfully measured the structure of metal-anthocyanin complex which caused the blue-color of sepals.

Chemistry has profound impact for the formation of human civilization. Chemistry played a crucial role in building top world first-class university. With new incoming scientific and technological revolution and the construction of new engineering in higher education, chemistry will continue to be the corner stone of basic sciences. Therefore, strong chemistry discipline is essential for quality training and should be continuously strengthened in the process of building world first-class university. The development of higher education proves that a first-class university must have a strong chemistry discipline and be able to provide first-class chemistry related courses and training system. This plays a vital role in the quality of talent training. In the construction of world-class university, no matter what new trends and ideas emerge, no matter how the evaluation index varies, the status of chemistry as the basic and central science will never change, and the position of chemistry as the core course in the quality of talent cultivation cannot be shaken.

This paper mainly discusses the construction of online and offline mixed curriculum of instrumental analysis. Through the construction of teaching staff, the reconstruction of professional curriculum content, the construction of online curriculum, the organic integration of online and offline, the reform and innovation of teaching methods and evaluation methods, the construction of mixed curriculum resources can be realized, so as to improve students’ interest in learning and enhance their attractiveness. Grasping English nomenclature of organic compounds has become more and more important since Nomenclature of Organic Compounds (2017) based on English IUPAC nomenclature was issued. This paper introduces a new teaching method on English and Chinese nomenclatures of organic compounds. Compounds with one class of characteristic groups are classified as hydrocarbons and non-hydrocarbons, numbering characteristic of functional groups, acyclic and cyclic compounds, while compounds with different characteristic groups are paid much attention to the priorities of the functional groups as main functional groups and whether the carbonyl carbon atoms of the functional groups (aldehyde, carboxylic acid and its derivatives) locate in the main linear and cyclic stems. The method is convenient for both teaching and learning, and popular and acceptable in our teaching practices.

To achieve the goal of “cultivating talents with high morality”, the ideological and political education was effectively implemented in classes of inorganic chemistry. Contents of the ideological and political education including the dialectical-materialism worldview, patriotism, scientific spirit and social responsibility, and excellent traditional culture are organically integrated into the teaching of the inorganic chemistry course, to ensure that the teaching of the inorganic chemistry and ideological and political education are successfully combined. In teaching practice, ideological and political education materials contained in the inorganic chemistry curriculum are sorted out, and six approaches to assimilate the ideological and political education into the inorganic chemistry curriculum and four strategies, namely, permeability, appropriateness, affectivity and compatibility, to put into effect the ideological and political education are summarized.

According to the requirements of the construction of new engineering disciplines, it is necessary to actively explore training modes that conform to the characteristics of the times and the laws of engineering education. In view of the characteristics of principles of chemical engineering course, two modern network teaching platforms, “Rain Classroom” and “Duifene” are introduced as blended teaching tools. Rain Classroom has realized a pre-class, in-class, and after-class three step teaching mode. By submitting chapter mind maps and “Liang Kao Bang” assignments, combined with classroom discussions, Duifene overcomes the difficulties of students’ learning one by one. This teaching mode stimulates students’ enthusiasm for independent learning in many ways, increases classroom interaction, and improves teaching quality.

The key points of MOOC construction are put forward. The research on the teaching design and application of before class, in class and after class in online and offline blended teaching of analytical chemistry has been carried out. A scientific and reasonable teaching comprehensive evaluation method is established. The reform and practical experience of analytical chemistry blended teaching for ability training is summarized. The problems encountered in blended teaching are objectively analysed and the effective solutions are presented. Practice has proved that the online and offline blended teaching can improve the teaching effect and effectively cultivate students’ ability to analyze and solve problems.

Based on the experimental teaching characteristics of melting point measurement, a new wireless and visual microscopic melting point apparatus was developed and applied in experimental teaching. This apparatus took the advantages of intelligent mobile devices and wireless WiFi technology, and has been authorized by the national practical patent. Compared with the traditional microscopic melting point meter (heating stage method), which was commercially available and widely used in experimental teaching, this novel apparatus was characterized by the low-cost, modularity, automatic operation, visualization and traceability in record storage. Due to the “one-to-many” and wireless visual observation model, this apparatus effectively increased efficiency and improved effect of experiment teaching of melting point measurement, and avoided the hidden dangers of health and security in experimental teaching.

A comprehensive chemical experiment based major on physical chemistry knowledge, including also contents of inorganic chemistry and structural chemistry, is recommended here for practical teaching. Zeolitic-imidazolate framework compound of ZIF-67 was prepared by a simple precipitation method carried out at room temperature. The structure of the compound was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, and the size and morphology of the product were studied by scanning electron microscopy. The solid-liquid adsorption process of ZIF-67 to remove aqueous organic dye of Congo red was studied by UV-Visible spectrophotometer. The adsorption isotherm and kinetics was studied in full detail. This comprehensive experiment fully combines the basic knowledge of chemistry, basic experimental skills and frontier academic research. It would deepen the students’ understanding of chemistry knowledge, improve their basic experimental skills and ability to carry out scientific research by applying subject knowledge comprehensively, further developing their divergent thinking mode and innovation ability.

Taking classic esterification experiment as the carrier, the concept of lean safety management was introduced andthe teachers started with “being a sensible leader”, and thenthe students were guided consciously to pay attention to safety problems in the process of experiment by using advanced concepts such as “breaking inertia thinking”, “initiative and willingness” and “continuous improvement”. Through the design of teaching links suitable for the lean safety management concept, students’ safety awareness and conscious safety habits were cultivated. In the teaching practice, it was found that the application of lean safety management concept could significantly improve the students’ safety awareness, eliminate the potential safety risks in the experimental process, and better achieve the purpose of experimental teaching.

According to the shortcomings of the “flipped classroom” teaching mode in teaching chemistry experiment, a new mode of student-centered chemistry experiment “triple three” flipped teaching is reconstructed relying on the “cloud class”. Experimental teaching is divided into three classes: self-study class, theoretical class and experimental class. The three links in the theoretical class are personal report, group activities and test review, respectively. After the three classes, the three evaluations of learning effect, which include self-study evaluation, participation evaluation and experimental operations’ evaluation, is formed. Under this new teaching mode, the synthesis of cyclohexene in organic chemistry is exemplified in this mode. The results show that the whole teaching process not only reflects the teaching concept of “learning-based teaching and student-centered”, but also takes advantage of the offline traditional classroom to achieve the purpose of lengthening the time of “knowledge internalization” and testing the students’ mastery of online self-study in the stage of “knowledge impartment”. There has more time and space to excavate and integrate the curriculum ideological and politicalelements in order to achieve the value guidance for students in knowledge dissemination.

By reviewing the work of the measurement audit for dissolution of salicylic acid tablets from 2015 to 2020, this article expounded the implementation mode of the measurement audit for dissolution of salicylic acid tablets, analyzed the factors that may affect the results of determination, and explored the problems of participating laboratories and the measurement to be adapt. It could be concluded that the measurement audit for dissolution of salicylic acid tablets was an effective way to improve testing ability of participating laboratories. It could also promote the construction and development of quality management system in proficiency testing provider.

Pharmaceutical separation engineering is a practical course. However, the traditional teaching mode focuses on theoretical knowledge, and lacks the training of students’ ability to solve practical problems and design ability. In this paper, project cases of “extraction of isorhamnetin-3-O-β-D-rutose from the buds of Parochetus communis” was served as an example to introduce how to strengthen students’ practical abilities by case teaching and information technology. Furthermore, the application of case teaching was discussed.

ACE organic is an online homework of organic chemistry. ACE prompts students to construct a structural response to a posed question with a graphical structure-drawing interface. ACE offers feedback that explains why a response is correct or incorrect, guiding students to the correct answer. ACE is the only program that allows students to drawcomplicatedmechanisms ormultistepsyntheses. There are multiple correct answers to a question such as this one, but ACE is intelligent enough to accept many different correct answers and still exclude the incorrect ones. Automatic grading of ACE relieves instructors of grading students’ homework themselves, but they can still use students’ grades on homework towards their class grades. In particular, the ACE forum allows students to ask questions that the instructor or other students can answer. The ACE has been applied to the organic chemistry course in College of Chemistry, Jilin University. It was proved that using of ACE increased students’ interests in organic chemistry and developed students’ strict scientific attitude.

The relationship between chemistry learning motivation, laboratory safety awareness and attitude among first-year undergraduates in university was investigated with questionnaire survey. The results showed that motivation of learning chemistry, laboratory safety awareness and safety attitude were significant different in schools. The laboratory safety awareness and safety attitude of students in School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering wassignificant moderate positivecorrelation with the motivation of learning chemistry, but those in other schools were weak correlation. Therefore, teachers should improve the relevance of safety education with the specialty, and combine the curriculum content with professional characteristics and application as much as possible.

According to the currently accepted mechanisms of synthesis and decomposition of ammonia, the rate-determining step of the forward and reverse reaction is discussed. Then, the rate equations of synthesis and decomposition of ammonia is formulated based on which the kinetic equilibrium constants are postulated. The comparison between the kinetic and thermodynamic expressions of equilibrium constant is made. It is helpful for the students to correctly understand the relationship between thermodynamic equilibrium constant and reaction rate of ammonia synthesis.

The amphiprotic NaHA can be divided into acidic and alkaline substances. If NaHA is acidic, its solution has a pH range of (pKa1+pKa2)/2<pH<7.00. If NaHA is alkaline, the pH range of its solution covers 7.00<pH<(pKa1+pKa2)/2. Based on the acid-base properties of NaHA solution, ignoring the minor components, the approximate formula of pH for acidic or alkaline solution is obtained, respectively. The new approximate formula derived in this paper has the following characteristics: It can be used in very dilute solution(1.0×10-5 mol·L-1), its physical meaning is clear, and the approximate result satisfies the requirement of ±5% error.

Rounding off for numerical values is an important content in the analytical chemistry teaching. The mainstream analytical chemistry textbooks adopt the rules of round half to even at present. The relationship between the mantissa and rounding condition has been analyzed in detail. The results show that not the “mantissa” but “the first digit of the mantissa” would conform to the rule. Comparative analysis shows that the rounding rules with numbers 4, 5, and 6 as comparison values are the same as the GBT8170—2008 national standard with 5. However the logic and presentation of the latter are better. Therefore, it is suggested that the rounding rules of the GBT8170—2008 national standard should be adopted in analytical chemistry textbooks.
