Show Abstract ( 24 )
In order to achieve teaching objectives of coatings formulation design course, the concept of outcome-based education (OBE) had been introduced into the teaching reform of the course. That is to say, coatings formulation design course was designed, organized, implemented and evaluated based on expected teaching objectives. The specific reforms are as follows. Firstly, the expected teaching objectives of the course were formulated according to our school’s coating major students’ training orientation. Then the teaching processes were optimized on the basis of the expected teaching objectives, which include the choice of teaching content, and the strengthening of students’ dominant role in the teaching implementation, and the reform of teaching methods. Finally, a reasonable evaluation system was constructed for expected teaching objectives. Although some achievements have been made in the teaching of coatings formulation design course under OBE framework, the construction of this system still needs to be further improved and updated.

The inorganic chemistry teaching team of East China University of Science and Technology, set up general chemistry online courses on Wisdom Tree platform and QQ groups as the auxiliary. In the two main lines of general chemistry, the microstructure of matter as an important role, determines the macro and micro properties of matter. Taking electron configuration for atoms as an example, through the big data support and interactive communication section of Wisdom Tree platform, the learning situation of students in the three learning links of “pre-class, in-class, after-class” and the three feedback analysis of class teaching effect of “live interaction, chapter test and final exam” is timely tracked and analyzed. The accumulated experience in online course may offer reform opportunity for online and offline blended learning.

Show Abstract ( 18 )
The course polymer materials is an important learning content for the major of polymer materials and engineering, but its complex knowledge system brings many difficulties to the course description. In order to better complete the teaching objectives of the course and realize the comprehensive cultivation of students’ thinking ability and scientific research quality, a large number of interactive, discussion and research teaching methods are used in the teaching process. Among them, 4~5 students are allocated into a study team in the research-based learning task. The team is asked to independently select the types of polymer materials that are common in life, and discusses with teachers to determine the material types. In the process of completing this task, the team should first analyze and determine the main chemical compositions of the polymer materials through course knowledge, product description, and appearance, etc. Next, modern detection and analysis methods or self-made research methods are applied to identify the chemical structure of the material. Third, according to the application field, the physical structure, performance and functions of the polymer materials are detected and analyzed. Finally, all the data are analyzed to draw logistic conclusion by referring to literatures. Through this goal-driven approach, the students are guided to complete research projects independently. This research-based learning method greatly mobilizes the initiative of students, improves the enthusiasm of all students to participate in course discussion and knowledge-learning, and further expands students’ knowledge boundary.

Being as a classic item of fundamental organic chemistry experiment course in universities, the experiment for adipic acid preparation is usually carried out through oxidation of cyclohexanol by potassium permanganate. However, because of the bursting out of reactants and yellow products phenomenon appeared during the students operating, experiment effects were often not very well. In this present work, six problems occurred frequently during the synthesis process were analyzed and discussed deeply. Also, some solution approaches were proposed and the improved experimental project was further designed. The practice result indicated that this new method could make greater improvement with the experimental rate of > 65% and products of high purity.

The extension is carried out on the basis of retaining the original confirmatory experiment. In this paper, the influence of the concentration of catalyst and substrate on the iodide modified BZ oscillating system was investigated,The standard curve of Rhodamine B was drawn to determine the content of Rhodamine B in food. Compared with traditional verification experiments, the two-stage teaching mode is easier to be combined in class and after class. The reformed mode can not only train the basic experimental skills of physical chemistry, but also facilitate the cultivation of students’ independent innovative ability and scientific research ability.

Environment computational chemistry content, “chemicals structure-activity relationship”, was added as the new engineering elements via the research feedback teaching approach. The “3 3 3” teaching mode was proposed based on the online-offline hybrid method. The students’ various ability training and value modelling were strengthened owing to the teaching design and diversified process evaluations. Practice suggested that students’ sense of learning gain positively related to their class participation. Based on teachers’ scientific research feedback and frontier expansion, students’ interests and challenges in application of which would be more stimulated, and their practical ability and innovative ability could be further improved. Accordingly, new engineering connotative construction of environmental chemistry through all-around could be implemented, which might provide reference for the new engineering upgrade of the environment engineering.

The calculations of nuclear magnetic resonance data by quantum chemistry methods and comparison with experimental data have been widely used to determine the configurations of complex natural products. Taking the teaching of nuclear magnetic resonance as an example, the specific application of quantum chemistry calculations in the teaching of the spectra analysis of organic compounds is introduced. Calculating the chemical shift values of proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and carbon nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy can assist in the analysis of molecular structures and help students have a more intuitive understanding of the distribution of electrons and the chemical environment of atomic nuclei. It is helpful to students to better understand the nature of nuclear magnetic resonance and effectively improve students’ interests and enthusiasm for learning of nuclear magnetic resonance. Meanwhile, it is also helpful to students to better understand the application of quantum chemical calculations in nuclear magnetic resonance, understand the cutting-edge methods of chemical research, broaden students’ horizons, and cultivate students’ ability to solve practical problems.

Electrophilic additions of alkenes and hydrogen halides are not only one class of important reactions of alkenes, but also an important synthetic method of haloakanes. In current popular organic chemistry textbooks, only stepwise mechanism involving carbocation intermediates and regioselectivity are introduced on the electrophilic additions of alkenes and hydrogen halides, not concerning their stereoselectivity. This article introduces the reported mechanisms and stereoselectivity on the electrophilic additions of alkenes and hydrogen halides, hoping to update and to improve the understanding on this electrophilic additions in teaching organic chemistry.
