Integration of “Science-Engineering-Medicine” to Achieve Original Innovation: Practical Exploration of Postgraduate Training in Interdiscipline of Biomedical Engineering
Responding to the needs of biomedical innovative talents for the development of science and society, a "multi-discipline research platform" including biomedical engineering, chemistry, physics, materials, electronics and medicine was stablished to train the graduate students of biomedical engineering. Relying on the Cultivating Fund Project for National Key Projects and Emerging Interdisciplinary Research of Sun Yat-sen University, a cross-disciplinary supervisor-group was formed for exploring a way to improve innovative ability of postgraduate students as well as the capability to solve problems based on multi-discipline. The modern education concept like "people oriented" and "comprehensive development" as well as the higher education thinking of "focusing on the development of student" was considered in the whole student education process including boarding the knowledge range, compacting the basic knowledge and the practical capability. Practice results show that the multi-disciplinary research platform plays an important role in expanding graduate students' innovative thinking, expanding professional knowledge, cultivating engineering practice ability and so on. This paper has also given suggestions for the construction of multi-disciplinary postgraduate training system.
Determination of Serum Glucose by Digital Image Analysis with a Smartphone as Detector
A new smartphone imaging digital image analysis method for determination of glucose in human serum was proposed. Serum glucose reacts with glucose oxidase/peroxidase to form a color complex, then the digital images from the solution above were captured by a smartphone and imported into the Image J software to read the values of three channels. The experimental data showed that the values of green and blue channels are linearly correlated with the certain concentration of serum glucose, both the values of green and blue channels can be used to establish standard curves for determination of glucose in human serum. Then the sensitivity of the two standard curves was compared. Finally, the standard curve of blue light with high sensitivity was used to detect the samples. The results were consistent with those of spectrophotometric method with the recovery of 96.0%~102.5%. The proposed method is easy, rapid, accurate and can be used in on-site analysis without professional instruments. In this method, the students' own smartphones as detector can greatly stimulate their interests in experiment and innovative spirit.
Independent Research and Development of Large Helium Cryogenic Refrigeration System
This paper starts from the special properties of the helium gas, especially the two different state of helium in the low temperature that is normal liquid helium and superfluid helium, and analyzes the reason of the helium as the refrigerant of the large scale cryogenic system. Through specific experimental operation, structural analysis and data processing steps, the students could learn the knowledge, get closer to the scientific research, eliminate students' scientific research and finally cultivate their study enthusiasm.
Detailed Principles of Separation of Amino Acids by Paper Chromatography
Based on the importance of the experiment of separating amino acids by paper chromatography in undergraduate specialties such as biology and medicine, this paper makes a detailed supplement to the part of the experimental textbook which can not be explained in detail, including the stationary phase of paper chromatography, the capillary effect of filter paper, the role of water and acid (base) in mobile phase. It will deepen students' understanding of the principle of paper chromatography.
A Fluorescent InP Nanoprobe for Detecting the Content of Cadmium Ions: An Analytical Chemistry Experiment
Based on the principle that a green fluorescence of InP nanoprobe was clearly observed in the presence of cadmium irons, we could judge whether there were cadmium ions in the tested samples by adding InP nanocrystals. Also, the quantitative analysis of cadmium ions was conducted using fluorescence spectrometer. The method to directly detect cadmium ions in hydrophobic as well as those in hydrophilic media has exhibited excellent characters on convenient operation, potential applications, high selectivity and sensitivity. The experiment teaching can make students better understand practical applications of this nanoprobe, which has been at the forefront of science and technology, stimulate their interest in scientific research, train their operating ability and cultivate their scientific spirit of thinking.
Experimental Design for Biomass Liquefaction and Analysis and Separation of Products
A comprehensive chemistry experiment was designed to understand the process of biomass liquefaction and the analysis and separation of its products. Aimed to obtain high value-added chemicals such as acetophenone, 2,6-dimethoxyphenol, the experiment steps include the ethanol liquefaction of biomass (wheat straw), the collection of gas/liquid/solid products, the characterization of products components and structures, and the separation of liquid products (bio-oil) by extraction and column chromatography. Based on the current situation of social energy, this experiment combines students' theoretical knowledge with practical application, and stimulate their interests in new energy chemistry. The utilization of various means of separation, purification and product analysis in this experiment can improve students' basic experimental skills, practical operations capability and data handing ability. At the same time, students are encouraged to expand their knowledge and design innovative schemes.

Chemical Process Simulation Experiment Based on Local Characteristics Taking Pressure Swing Distillation as Example
Based on the characteristics of high altitude and low atmospheric pressure in Liupanshui area, a simulation experiment of pressure swing distillation process with local characteristics was set up. The operating pressure of the low pressure column is set to the atmospheric pressure in Liupanshui area. Taking the separation of methyl acetate-methanol azeotrope by pressure swing distillation as an example, the distillation sequence and process were determined by phase diagram. The influences of feed position, reflux ratio and number of trays on annual total cost (TAC) were discussed. It has good teaching effect for students to master chemical technology and economic analysis. At the same time, it provides effective guarantee for training students' engineering practice ability and serving local economy.
Teaching Research on Introduction Part of Medical Organic Chemical Spectroscopy
This paper outlined the application of problem-oriented teaching mode in the chapter on organic spectrum analysis in the course of medical organic chemistry for medical colleges. This part has the "three difficult" teaching characteristics of the students "difficult to learn" and "difficult to test" and the teacher "difficult to teach". We conducted theoretical teaching of the core concept of organic spectrum analysis (introduction) through layer-by-layer questions, sequential method of teaching, and rich application examples. It can effectively improve students' interest in learning, reduce the difficulty of learning, and enable students to master the basic theory and core concepts of organic spectrum analysis in a limited number of hours, and lay a solid foundation for the cultivation of subsequent spectrum dissociation ability.
